Course Descriptions
This course provides information and hands on investigation regarding career ready skills, information regarding the 16 career pathways, the development of an e-portfolio and healthy lifestyle stress management. You will develop and complete an investigation of careers and read a life story of a real teen parent who completes high school, attends a university as a single parent and later becomes a successful teacher and author. Central to coursework is participation in regular speaker workshops through podcasts in the areas of personal finance, healthy relationships, current health issues that affect the family, and stress management. You will attend an online career fair, log, volunteer experiences, participate in class discussion forums, post journal entries on a weekly basis. At the end of the course you will have completed an Individual Learning Plan/e-portfolio, complete with letters of recommendation for your resume, that can be used for applications for post-secondary opportunities including, but not limited to: Wisconsin Technical College System, private college, UW University System, military service and job employment applications.

You will attend an online community event called Baby Basics, log job shadow experiences, participate in class discussion forums, post journal entries, participate in a mock interview, create a resume. At the end of the course you will have completed an Individual Learning Plan/e-portfolio, complete with letters of recommendation and a resume, that can be used for applications for post-secondary opportunities including, but not limited to: Wisconsin Technical College System, private college, UW University System, military service and job employment applications.

STUDENTS

This course that will help you learn about children from birth to age one. It will assist you in helping your child in with physical, emotional and cognitive development. We will work together to learn about decision making, family togetherness as well as changes you and your child will go through. Two family nights a semester are a requirement of this course.
Child Development I

Child Development II
This course will focus on physical, emotional and coginitive development of your child from ages 1-3. The toddler will be the primary focus of the course and there will be great emphasis on problem solving along, literacy development and positive parenting. Two family nights are a requirement of this course.
Students seek employment and are responsible for maintaining 15 hours a week of paid or volunteer work. Open communication between the teacher, student and employer will help to make this positive, learning experience. Weekly attendance reports, employer report cards, written evaluations and written summaries are part of this course.

Independent Study
This is often determined by the student, parent and staff to create coursework that aligns with student’s individual learning plan.
This course is designed to prepare students for post-secondary and college bound endeavors and career readiness. Students will work collaboratively around topics such as: insight, independence, relationships, initiative, creativity, humor, social media and family relationships through the use of inquiry, literature, writing and technology. In this course, students will read literary selections guided by the aforementioned topics to communicate both orally defending points of view with substantive evidence as well as in writing through persuasive, informative, descriptive and narrative genre.

Literacy Investigations II
